The reality principle
Today was a bit of a slow day for me, and because of that, I was just reading some random older entries from some of my random favorite blogs...and that's when I ran into this very interesting tid bit from the user jellehbelleh. She no longer updates, but I really love this old entry of hers, and feel that it pretty much sums up how me and other very few humans feel about religion and God in general, and why we are thus so much smarter than the "common folk." Here's the tid bit:

"The whole God-idea is clearly man-made. First off, the whole idea that if you’re bad you go to an evil, firey burning hell? So this “father-like” being created this place to discapline us for our sins, like being sent to our room? I find it hard to believe...if anything it’s more like a wives tale that you tell your kids before they go to sleep, no different than the boogey man.

I’ve seen so many people, my mother included, “enroll” into the nearest church because they felt their lives were meaningless and needed to find something to fill the void because they couldn’t do it on their own. Again, my point being, if they failed at something it could be God’s fault for not listening or the Devil for tempting you. Our society breeds finger-pointers based off a reward system; the good guys (Religion A) against the bad guys (Religion B) are constantly at war because the idea of being equal doesn’t compute with human history or evolution.

There’s gotta be one top dog, one ruler, one way...kinda like the idea of God: my way or the highway.

And this Jesus figure was probably nothing more than some hippie way back when who actually influenced a lot of people. Did he have any special powers? Who knows...maybe, maybe not. But that really didn’t matter. What mattered was that people listened to him. I’m sure political officials saw how much weight he could pull by himself and feared him because of their own social agendas. But I’m sure he was like anyone of us; I’m almost positive that he didn’t die a virgin...come on, you have a hot, young, single prostitute washing your feet, are you just going to let her stop there?! "

Well done jelleh, well done.
